This first week of September seems like a complete whirlwind. I just got settled back after evacuating from Hurricane Irene, my hubby is off to teach another year of English to 12 year olds, and we are just getting in the swing of the fall schedule.
Three days after returning home, my house looks like we not only got hit by an earthquake and hurricane, but a tornado of toddler toys as well! Almost every morning this week I have stepped on a lego or toy car, and I haven’t even unpacked or started the laundry that has started to overflow out of the laundry room and into the den.
All of this to say that I didn’t get to everything on this week’s to-do list. Or last weeks to-do list. For over half of last week, I was working off the 2 inch screen of my droid.
I had to shift some things around and re-prioritize. Babies first. Calls that couldn’t be rescheduled next. Prepping for 2 speaking gigs. Sleep and eating in there somewhere!
This is all part of the role as an entrepreneur. I have disappointed some people — some who I had to push back deadlines, who I had to reschedule calls with, or whatever. There I times when making everyone else happy and putting their priorities first means laying myself at the sacrificial alter.
There was a time when I could do that. There was a time when I would completely turn myself inside out to keep everyone happy. Pull all-nighters to deliver a proposal. Drop everything when an email request came in. Answer every single call.
Now I’m a little older and wiser — and I know that putting my needs last is the fastest way to burn myself out. That if I need a break – it doesn’t matter why, I just need to clear my head – then my higher self is telling me to get my booty out of this chair and take a walk, get on my yoga mat, or even close my eyes during the babies nap time.
I love that Danielle LaPorte, one of my favorite inspirations, says she has the Goddess of Permission on speed-dial. That you have permission to charge what you’re worth, to kill your to do list, to succeed wildly.
The Goddess of Permission taught me this year that giving myself a break, even taking a nap, can be one of the most productive things I can do for myself and The Yogipreneur. And it’s true — when I give myself the mental and energetic break, then I can produce some amazing things that make a huge impact.
So with the Goddess on my side, I’m gonna go cuddle my sweet babies and close my eyes for a bit.

I have to say, this call was AMAZING! We had over 100 yogis from around the world sign up and listen in through phone & webcast. Ava and I had so much fun answering Q&As that I’m sure we’ll host another one soon. Listen in to the replay –> Back to Yoga Biz School
