Many people initially get excited about using social media for business however few actually see results from this tool. One of the biggest reasons – consistency.

How often do you update your social media (Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, etc)? Don’t just guess. Take a look and see how often you have been updating.

Make a commitment to update a specific number of times per week. YES PER WEEK! Social media is designed to give people information about what is going on NOW, not a month ago.

So decide how many times per week you will be updating, put it in your calendar and commit to executing!

For more information on utilizing social media for your business, join us on May 9th for Marketing 101 for Yogipreneurs…see the events section of the fan page for details.

As I’ve been preparing for the official launch of The Yogipreneur, I’ve been putting together my board of advisors – made up of some of my most inspirational and influential mentors. In the past week, I emailed out my business plan and other materials for feedback.

I have several mentors who are from the old school world of business. They don’t have fancy degrees. They grew their business by knocking on doors and asking for it. They would never think of mixing their personal life with their business life. So I started getting some questions about why I’m putting my photo on my website, sharing my personal insights and “facebook friending” my fans.

The way people do business is changing. I firmly believe that you would rather work with someone who you know, like and trust as opposed to someone you know nothing about. And in the transformative practice of yoga, sharing your story is a way to let people know that you are a real person who has done the work on the mat.

So I encourage you to share your story. Yoga is a process of transformation which continues our entire life. Your students want to know who you are! Once they trust you, amazing things will begin to happen and you will begin to see the transformation on and off the mat.

Facebook is so much fun! You can catch up with old friends! You can see pictures of their kids! And all these quizzes and applications – we have to play with these!

And there goes your afternoon.

Yogipreneur – ask yourself – are you using Facebook with intention?

Tools like Facebook should compliment your communications with your yoga community, not distract you from it. A feature that I particularly life is the ability to create friend lists. Create a list of friends, another of family and another of your yoga community.

Spend quality time with your community!

Join us for Marketing 101 for Yogipreneurs on May 9th to learn more about using social media in your yoga business!

Just a quick tip for today -

I see many people on Facebook using their business name on a personal profile. Just a tip – use your own name on your personal page and create a fan page for your business!

Why?

1) Facebook can, and probably will, take down your personal page if it is being used for business. Yup that’s right. And that means you’ll have to go through the entire process of creating a network, uploading pictures, writing notes all over again. If you are on Facebook for business, create a fan page!

2) People want to know who you are. If you are worried about privacy, then don’t put anything online that you wouldn’t want your granny or your VIP clients to see. Your clients want to know about you as a person! So let them know what’s up in your life and what is important to you!

3) The Fan Page has fantastic features for business! You can see how many people are viewing your page, demographic info – this is amazing stuff! For Free!

Learn more about using social media effectively in my seminar on May 9th – Marketing 101 for Yogipreneurs!
