DesigningYourSweetYogaCareer.jpg

I’ve personally mentored hundreds of yogis in creating a profitable + sustainable business since founding The Yogipreneur in 2008.

In the past five years, I’ve seen it all. Single moms fully supporting her family by teaching yoga {and HUSTLIN’ to make it happen}. Former corporate lawyers who left 6 figure jobs to teach private yoga {ironically to other lawyers!}. Creative yogis who brought yoga to communities where there was none – and started classes in art museums and galleries. Multi-passionate yogis who combined yoga + life coaching or yoga + health coaching or yoga + competitive rowing {seriously!}.

I’ve seen yogis who have launched successful careers that were profitable within a few months and yogis who’ve struggled to pay the bills even after years of teaching. Yogis who have waiting lists for privates and yogis who’ve had to pick up shifts tending bar after their classes.

And as more and more teachers are graduating yoga teacher training – I see lots of mistakes. Lots of stumbling. Lots of frustration. Lots of disappointment.

You may know what I’m talking about::

  • You graduate teacher training and immediately start looking for teaching jobs. Then you realize that 1) you often can’t get hired without experience and 2) you can’t get experience without teaching classes!
  • There’s only a few {or NO} yoga studios in your town – and they simply don’t have enough classes on the schedule to add more teachers!
  • You’ve thought about offering private yoga lessons, starting your own classes, or teaching corporate yoga… but where do you even get started?
  • Searching on the Google only leads to more confusion as you get a million blogs full of tips + tricks, but no real cohesive strategy to build a sustainable career.
  • So you start asking around — and find out the many yoga teachers are struggling to make ends meet {struggling to pay the rent, pay for health insurance, or build savings}

In the 2012 Yoga In America Research Study, of the 800+ yoga teachers surveyed – for only 22.3% of those teachers is yoga their only profession and 83.5% are teaching yoga part-time. Another study from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that while the average yoga teacher salary is $35K – 50% of yoga teachers earn less than $31,000 and 75% never break $46,000. Only the top 10% of yoga teachers make more than $63,000 per year

And you realize that the hour you discussed the Business of Yoga in teacher training didn’t prepare you for this!

There’s good news! If you’re ready to get the yoga business education + training you need, take responsibility for your career, and commit to making it happen – you’re in the right place!

I’ve gathered some 100% free resources just for you to show you the way, answer some questions, and help you build a profitable + sustainable yoga career you love.

Chapter 5:: The Ethics of Teaching Yoga

While yoga has it’s own unique code of ethics to live by {Yamas + Niyamas} – we should also abide by the same guidelines as any other chosen profession. There has been LOTS of gray area in the world of ethical behavior {especially around the ethics of having sexual relationships with students} that unfortunately has reduced the professionalism of yoga. When in doubt, consult these posts::
